We are part of a research project that investigates the practical conditions that influence the shaping of temporal processes in the field of health, taking into account political, clinical and experiential dimensions.
The project is funded by the National Research and Development Agency (ANID), through the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FONDECYT), grant No. 1241495.
The objectives of the project are:
- To analyse how time is spent in public and private healthcare facilities in the Metropolitan Region.
- To interpret and analyse the configuration of temporal regimes, taking into account the circulation of temporal processes in the contexts of policy-making, clinical practice and disease trajectories in the Metropolitan Region.
- To identify and describe the implications of temporalisation devices and temporal regimes for the biopolitical management of time.
Its specific objectives are:
- To describe the normative-political, epistemological, technological and practical relationships that constitute the temporal dimension within public and private healthcare systems.
- To describe and analyse the link between temporalisation mechanisms and the subjectification of patients, taking into account their disease trajectories, as well as strategies for managing and exchanging knowledge regarding time developed by biosocial groups.
- To identify socio-material dynamics linked to the configuration of temporal regimes in healthcare.
- To interpret the configuration of temporal regimes in healthcare based on the circulation of temporal processes within the contexts of policy-making, clinical practice and disease trajectories.
- To identify socio-material and epistemic processes relevant to time management in healthcare.
- To describe the practical implications of devices and temporal regimes for a biopolitics of time in healthcare.
Planning
This study is structured to investigate the characteristics of platforms considered fundamental to the shaping of temporalities in healthcare, whilst also examining how they interrelate.
In doing so, we aim to explore the dynamics that stabilise and promote processes of differentiation within temporary health care arrangements.

Jorge Castillo-Sepúlveda
Principal Investigator
He holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Santiago de Chile, a Master’s degree in Research in Social Psychology and a PhD in Social Psychology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He is a lecturer at the School of Psychology at the University of Santiago de Chile, and a member of the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST), the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S) and the Chilean Network for the Study of Science, Technology and Society (CTS).
He has participated as Principal Investigator and as a Co-investigator in various projects that explore the interplay between health, medicine, space, materiality and time, particularly from the perspective of Actor-Network Theory.
He has published in various national and international books and journals, including Social Studies of Science, Athenea Digital and Saúde e Sociedade, amongst others.

José Antonio Román
Co-researcher
He holds a degree in Psychology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, and a Master’s degree and PhD in Social Psychology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is currently a full academic staff member in the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Humanities and Social Communication Technologies, and a researcher at the University Institute for Research and Technological Development (IDT) at the Metropolitan Technological University.
He has served as principal investigator and co-investigator, working as part of multidisciplinary teams on both national and international projects.
His recent work includes publications in Qualitative Sociology, Polis and Quaderns de Psicologia, amongst others.

Maya Zilveti

Maya Zilveti is a psychologist with a Master’s degree in Anthropology and a PhD in Sociology. She has been working at the UNDP Chile Office as a researcher since 2010, and since 2023 as Coordinator of the Research Unit, leading a multidisciplinary team.
She has been a researcher and co-author of various UNDP publications, including: The Age of Politicisation: Human Development Report on Chile (2015); *Chile in 20 Years: A Journey Through the Human Development Reports (2017); Regional Inequality in Chile: Income, Health and Education from a Territorial Perspective (2018); Ten Years of the Democracy Audit. Felipe Torres

He is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Sociology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in Santiago de Chile. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the Max Weber Centre at the University of Erfurt (Germany) and is a member of the International Society for the Study of Time (ISST). E
He is the author of Temporal Regimes: Materiality, Politics, Technology (Routledge, 2022) and has edited the book Concepts that Make History(ies). Studies on Reinhart Koselleck (Pólvora, 2022). He has also written articles on social theory, history and the study of time in Time & Society, Isegoría and Cinta de Moebio.

Pedro Güell
Co-researcher
Pedro Güell holds a degree in Sociology from the University of Chile and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. He is a lecturer at the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the UACh. He is President of the Fundación Horizonte Ciudadano; a director of various foundations; and a member of editorial boards for both academic and general-interest journals.
Coordinator of the Human Development Report for the United Nations Development Programme between 1996 and 2014; Director of Public Policy at the Office of the President of the Republic of Chile between 2014 and 2018. He has a long list of publications in specialist journals and books.
