Between 16 and 29 July 2024, we had the opportunity to take part in and present aspects of the project at the #easst4s2024 conference, held at the Free University of Amsterdam
EASST-4S 2024 was the joint quadrennial conference of the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST) and the Society for the Social Studies of Science (4S), bringing together nearly 3,000 participants to discuss the study and challenges of STS (Science, Technology and Society) in the context of contemporary transformations. It took place at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam from 16 to 19 July.

At the event, we had the opportunity to present material relating to the project’s approach to the study of temporality in healthcare. The presentation entitled “Time must be cared for: mundane practices and sensitive trajectories of time in healthcare in Chile”, prepared jointly by Jorge Castillo-Sepúlveda and Francisco Tirado, formed part of the panel “
‘Theorising through the mundane: narrating transformations in healthcare’, which took place on Wednesday and Thursday of the conference.
In this paper, we move from the conception of temporality in healthcare settings as a ‘matter of fact’ and a ‘matter of interest’ to referring to it as a ‘matter of care’ and an empirical issue. To this end, we approach it through the notion of the ‘sensible trajectory’ of time, arguing that temporality is a mundane matter, linked to the attention paid to the entities that constitute it.
